This website is dedicated to showcasing Jonathan's military aviation photography portfolio which contains images from aviation events from all around the UK, his local airfield RNAS Yeovilton, the Mach Loop in Wales and the Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA). Jonathan has enjoyed the hobby of aviation photography since a young age, he caught the bug at the age of 10 years old after watching two English Electric Lightning's taking off in full afterburner at his local airfield RNAS Yeovilton. The sight, sound and smell has kept him captivated for over thirty years with the added challenge of capturing that perfect aviation image. Jonathan's has a very subjective view that photography is an art form in the same way as creating a stunning piece of art on canvas and that digital imagery can be subject to the same artistic license and not simply a record of a moment in time. Jonathan is an avid Nikon user, the Nikon system offers excellent versatility with a wide range of DSLR cameras and lenses which are ideally suited to the challenging aviation photography environment. Jonathan also considers aviation photography to be a ever changing world, no two images can be the same and this is what keeps the interest alive and the strive to improve the quality and dynamics of a photo.
About Me - My name is Jonathan and I am 43 and live in Ilchester, Somerset. Within this site you will find photographs of military and civilian aircraft which I have shot all over the UK at various events, bases and also from the Salisbury Plain Exercise Area. I have enjoyed the world of aviation for over 30 years which lead me on to my passion of aviation photography, there is no better feeling when you have captured that image you have been after for a long time. I started photography with a Practica film camera and have progressed to the Nikon DSLR setup I have now, the digital age has made the capture of images a more pleasurable experience especially as you have instant gratification and do not have to wait for those prints to come in the post. My favorite location is the Salisbury Plain Training Area, not only do get to spend time in the great outdoors sometimes alone which gives you some time to ponder the world or with great friends that I have made along the way. Also the mix of locations and types of helicopters you can photograph always keeps me wanting to go back for more.
